Final Animation!

Really pleased with my final animation. I have worked in the mouth movements as best i could but doesnt really matter that it isn't perfect, it adds to the childlike quality that it has. Enjoy!

Animating The gang!

For each monster i created 5 images each with a different mouth. This produced 5 frames opening the mouth and then in reverse 5 frames closing the mouth. This made the characters mouths move in time with the music. The two birds each had 12 frames for the downwards movement of wings and then again in reverse 12 frames for the upward movement of the wings.

I created my animation by drawing out each piece in fineliner and scanning them into photoshop. Once in photoshop i started to add colour. I then created each frame in photoshop placing each object in a seperate layer so it could be moved individually. I finally created a total of 360 frames for my full 30 second animation at a rate of 12 frames per second. I faded out the music towards the end and held the last frame that then faded into black.

Here is an example of the mouth movement. This example is too quick and will need slowing down for it to work in time with the music.

Meet...Gladys and ruby

Gladys is a new mum to baby Ruby. They stick close at all times leaving a magical trail behind them.

Meet....George

George is the youngest and smallest of the group. George also has the biggest mouth in the group, perfect for his role as joint lead singer. George has recently gone for a new look  by dying his hair red.

Meet...Frank

Frank is a main singer in the group. Although he may look quiet and nerdy he hasn't half got some lungs on him!
Frank thinks of his hair as his best feature and takes muc care styling it each morning.

Meet....Betty

Betty is also a backing singer. She is the only girl in the group and although she is small and cute she keeps the boys in check. Betty soon hopes to have some dental work to improve her appearence. She looks much prettier with her mouth shut.

Meet....Herbert

Herbert is a backing singer. He is the hard guy of the group... but not always the most intelligent of monsters.

Meet....Trevor!

<< This is my initial sketch of Trevor

Trevor is a easy going kind of monster. His hobbies include strolls in the park whist listening to his music. He has a very vivid imagination.

I decided it would be better to keep Trevor's t-shirt plain so the animation didn't get to busy.

Character Creation

I designed a few characters and picked out my favourites to use in my final animation. These hand drawn characters are a few of the ones i decided not to use.

Rayograms

I experimented in the dark room using different objects to create rayograms. I found that glass objects such as perfume bottles and light bulbs worked particullarly well. This perfume bottle created a really interesting effect. This is only the test strip, when i scanned in most of my prints they looked to dark and couldnt be seen. I experimented with many perfume bottles, displaying them at different angles. I tried to tie in this work with my animation project by trying to create sequences.

This print shows one perfume bottle from three different angles. It creates a sequence as it turns.

This print didn't scan in well but it is a sequence i created with a button in a clear packet with the button moving a little each time until it is out of the packet.

Initial sketchbook ideas

Here is some of my intitial sketch book work. This page is my first ideas/mood page including my three theme words which are Sunshine, Abstract and Bright. It includes ideas of colours, shapes and moods.

Character inspiration

I really like the style of the characters used in the Vauxhall Corsa advert and will use these as inspiration when creating my own characters.

Stop Motion Lego

I had a play about using lego to create a quick animation.

Story Board

I have decided to go for the first 30 seconds of the music as this is the section where there are most changes in the music. This makes it easier to work the animation with the sounds that are happening in the music. As the music didnt have a end point after 30seconds I have faded it out so it doesnt just stop dead.

Little monster guy listening to his headphones walking to the beat of the music.

Buildings pop in from the side and the sun pops into the sky.

Bird Monsters fly across the sky leaving a colourful trail of shapes and patterns.

12 seconds in singing starts. Two more monsters step out from behind the first and mouth the words asif they are singing it.

The buildings slide out and trees slide in to show change of scene, now walking through park.

Rainbow of colours and shapes appear from behind making patterns in the sky.

23seconds in a second lot of singing starts. Two new monsters step out to join the singing.
Music to fade in last two seconds.

All the monsters will be different but for simplicty in the story board i have stuck to a basic monster.

Little Lilly and Naughty Ned

This is a quick 3second animation i created using 12frames per second. A lot of effort for a very short outcome but it worked better than i thought it would!
Basic story line...ned pulls lillys hair which makes her let go of her balloon and drop her ice cream. Lilly ends up in tears. Ned pulls on her hair too hard resulting in him pulling her hair out. When he realises what he has done he looks shocked.

Graffiti animation.

Love the characters used in this animation. Really like the abstract story line and how it all flows together.

First attempt at stop motion!

So this was mine and Danni's first attempt at a stop motion video. The actual video was in colour and full screen but some how the computer decided to chop the right hand side of the screen of and make it black and white. I will try upload a better version at a later date. We kept it simple using two action figures and making them fight. The basic story line is the two figures enter the shot and bow to each other. The bigger power ranger one then flips her head round to reveal her mask. They then tumble around fighting for a while (you get a nice shot of my hand that needs editing out) and then the big power ranger kicks the little guy and walks off screen. Enjoy! :/

Stop Motion Research!

I wanted to research into other ways of carrying out stop motion animation other than using drawings. These are a few interesting techniques found.

I love how simple this technique is but how much thought and effort must have gone into the creation of it. Moving each one of the post-it notes for each frame must have been time consuming. The squares create the effect of an old games console with pixalated images and a square grid layout. I really like the over all effect of the technique used.

This idea uses lego blocks and i love the outcome. Could be so simply done to create some amazing effects. I dont like the digitally animated parts of the video i think it spoils its simplicity. Might give this a go at home see if i can create a small clip.

This idea uses a square block of candles, lighting certain candles in each frame. Really effective technique and also think it could work really well in the dark so there was more contrast in the lights.
